OUR COMMITMENT

Our collections start with a feeling, not a trend. A remembered landscape, an old textile, the colour of a shell, a print found while travelling, any of these can be the beginning of a collection. From there, we work closely with our ateliers and artisans in India, thinking through fabric, print, proportion and finish together rather than one after another.

Textile sits at the heart of what we do. We're drawn to hand processes especially, where no two pieces come out quite the same, and that's part of what makes them beautiful. Traditional techniques sit alongside modern shapes, so a piece feels connected to where it came from without being stuck in the past.

We work slowly, in small quantities, choosing natural, considered fabrics and working with makers whose skills have often been passed down over generations. From the first sketch to the finished piece, what we're after is simple: clothing with character, ease and staying power.

PRODUCTION

Because our supply chain is small and closely held, we have visibility over every stage of making a Chameli garment, from block, to bolt, to final stitch, and the ability to keep improving it as we grow.

SUPPLY CHAIN

Chameli is built on partnerships with women-owned and women-led ateliers and print houses in India. We work directly with our makers, which means fair, safe and dignified working conditions aren't a policy, they're a relationship we manage ourselves, daily.

PRINTS

Every print tells a story rooted in a real place, the tropics, the jungle, the tide of a coastal upbringing between Fiji and Australia. We work closely with our artisan partners to translate that story into cloth.

FAIR TRADE

Our costing reflects the skill, time and intricacy each technique demands. Hand-block printing and hand-finishing take time we're not willing to compress, and our pricing protects the people who do that work.

FABRICATION

Where possible, we work with surplus and deadstock textiles from our supply partners, giving existing fabric a second life rather than commissioning new production.

PROCESS

We work with our print and dye partners to avoid harmful substances in our production processes, protecting both the artisans making our pieces and the people wearing them.
