OUR PRODUCTS
A fabric earns its place with us long before it's cut into anything. We think about where it comes from, how it wears over time, and whether it's something worth keeping, not just for a season, but for years. Natural, renewable and recycled materials are our starting point, and we reach for deadstock and existing fabrics whenever we can.
We look at each material on its own terms: how it's made, how long it lasts, how it performs, while we keep building a clearer picture of where everything comes from.
What we care about most is that a Chameli piece is still worth wearing years from now. That means small production runs, real relationships with the ateliers and artisans behind each piece, and choosing to do things well over doing them quickly.
SILK
Our silk is made from 100% silk and selected for its fluid drape, lustre and strength.
A natural fibre with a long history in Indian textile traditions, silk brings an ease and richness to many of our pieces. We choose it not only for how beautifully it moves, but for its longevity, creating garments intended to be worn for years and returned to season after season.
COTTON
Soft, breathable and naturally comfortable, cotton forms the base of many of our pieces, including much of our hand-block printed collection.
Our cotton is selected for its feel, durability and suitability for traditional printing techniques. While it is not currently certified organic, we work with our suppliers to understand how our fabrics are processed, dyed and finished, and continue to seek more responsible options as our supply chain develops.
LINEN
Naturally breathable, durable and beautifully textured, linen becomes softer with every wear.
We select linen for its longevity and ease, with a preference for European flax and lower-impact processing where available. It is a fabrication particularly suited to the warm-weather, beach-to-evening way our pieces are designed to be worn.
PRINTS
Each Chameli print is brought to life by hand. Some using hand-carved wooden blocks dipped and pressed onto cloth, others using hand screen printing, where each colour is pulled through a fine mesh screen by our artisan partners in India, layer by layer. Both techniques are passed down through generations of makers. No two lengths of fabric are identical, the slight irregularities are proof of the human hand, not a flaw to be engineered out.
